Laughter Turned Into Math Equations

No big trip for us this last weekend.  The rain ruined any chance of outdoor fun, and the rain has continued for three days straight. Wind, rain, and dark dreary skies. It is 63 degrees and it's August! This weather reminds me of winter. I AM NOT READY FOR WINTER. I need more sun and warmth. I can't handle the thirty degree temperatures yet.  I know we still have fall before winter, but I also know how quickly fall flies by. 

I am finally going to visit my family this week in Wyoming! I haven't seen them since January and I am really looking forward to getting some time with them.  Nick will be holding down the fort and playing single-parent to our bad dogs. He is always thrilled to see me when I get back, and I know he misses me, but I also think the dogs finally get on his last nerve and he's ecstatic to share the responsibilities again.

I'm constantly reminded that I live with an engineer. A few weeks ago, one of my friends set her facebook "status" to say: HAHAHAHA HAHAHA HAHA HA

I had no idea what she meant, and I didn't give it much thought. Nick, on the other hand, turned it into a math equation and this is what I found on the chalk board the next morning:

Because It Makes Nick Laugh

Cape Cod

One of the best things about New England is the proximity to so many different cool places. We went hiking in the mountains a few weeks ago, and today we drove an hour and a half to get to Cape Cod. We were in the "mid Cape" area, as we didn't go to the outer cape known as Provincetown. We visited Chatham first, and it was gorgeous. Everything about the weather today was absolutely perfect. The sun was shining, and the temperature lingered around 76 degrees. We walked along the shore for quite a while (or at least long enough for me to get completely sunburnt). We found shells, lobster cages, and saw seals playing in the water not far off the shore. I took an absurd amount of photos, but some of my would-be favorites turned out slightly blurry due to the lens I was using. I still love them though, and I will post them and pretend I meant to make them out-0f-focus. =)

After a nice walk on the beach, we got smoothies at a little ice cream shop and headed to check out some other surrounding areas. We found a trail that led to a salt marsh, but it was high tide so the trail was flooded. It was a beautiful area and I hope we can make it back during low tide someday so that we can walk the trail. We had dinner in Brewster at a chowder house. It was a nice way to end the day. We are planning to take the dogs to the Cape once September rolls around, because they are "banned" from the beaches until the end of summer due to crowds. They will love it, and I will get a chance to photograph a sunset over the Cape. We will definitely be back!

Ikea-Round 2

We went to Ikea yesterday, and Nick got to see what an institution the place is. We were looking for a piece of furniture to support Nick's gigantic chalkboard. We didn't find exactly what we were looking for, but the piece we found was close enough. I think I mentioned last time I went that Ikea has a food court and a daycare. Last night after walking through the entire store, Nick and I were hungry and it was late. We decided to grab a quick (and cheap) bite to eat at their food court. Nothing quite like a $1 cinnamon roll for dinner!

Nick REALLY wanted to buy Gillie one of the sheep-skin rugs we saw. He just wanted to be able to watch her go crazy with it, but I imagined her tearing it to shreds immediately or peeing all over it, so we (actually I) opted not to get it.

After years of unreliable internet, we have finally resorted to paying for regular cable. Of course you can't just pay for high-speed internet...you have to get a "bundle" from the only company available in our neighborhood. Luckily Nick is working from home during the window of time they say they'll be there to install everything., and I'm sure Nick's second priority is to get the new shelf built to put his chalkboard up.
